Oskar Schindler was born in 1908 in Moravia, Austria-Hungary. After school he helped his dad sell farm equipment. He got married in 1928. He worked many and various jobs. Oskar was a man of the night. He then joined a pro-Nazi political party. He was arrested by Czechoslovak authorities and sentenced to death, but the Nazis pardoned him. Then he was sent to Kroków and was involved in a black market. He started a business and let Jews work so they wouldn’t be sent away. He employed 1,100 Jews and sheltered them by employing them in Germany factories that helped the war effort. Oskar and his wife escaped out of Czechoslovakia, which was turning to communism. They settled in Argentina with one of the Jews who he helped save. There he unsuccessfully tried to farm and go into the cement business. Oskar died on October 9 1974.
